Some conservative Romney critics say that the former governor has not defined himself enough for voters to know where he stands on the issues. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Pa., joins Chuck to assess whether the Romney campaign can win solely on an anti-Obama platform.
NBC’s First Read team has more on why conservatives are questioning Romney’s strategy.
The most recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows Romney still has still a net-negative favorable/unfavorable rating among voters.

I find it hard to believe that enough American voters are going to blame Obama for the continued economic malaise. It is obvious Obama inherited the economic mess, and the only thing he can be faulted for is compromising with those who would destroy him. Plenty of us don't want to see Mitt Romney bring another trillion dollar tax cut for billionaires to the table and watch the upper 1% offshore even more of their money. In fact, if Democrats were smart they would start taking offense against Republicans who complain about investments in our infrastructure and Democrats should start announcing "New Deal" programs like a new WPA program. This is the time to do it since interest rates are so low. The only thing the congress seems to want to pass are bills that limit personal freedom, especially when it comes to abortion, while pushing for deregulation laws that increase the freedom for corporations to participate in irresponsible behavior that got us into this mess in the first place!
I also remember when George W. Bu$h ran on the idea we couldn't "switch horses in the middle of the stream." Well, President Obama is in the middle of a tsunami and I'm not sure the American people want to hand the ball to Dubya's economic policy on steroid via Willard "Mitt" Romney!
All I have heard from Mitt Romney is lies, lies, lies. He gets up there and blame the President for everything, but excuse me what have John Boehner, Eric Canter, Mitch McConnell been doing? From day one the GOP plan has been to do whatever they could to bring down this President. McConnell said his main goal was to make President Obama a one term President. His number one goal wasn't to help the people who were struggling, that wasn't his number one goal. So he and his Senate Republicans set a world record using filibusters to block anything and everything which could put people back to work. On 60 Minutes Boehner couldn't even use the word compromise. Boehner said when they took control of the House in 2010, he was going to focus on jobs, jobs, jobs. He lied. Right now a Infrastructure Bill is sitting in the House gathering dust. That bill has pass the Senate, and it is reported that it could put millions back to work working on our bridges, highways, etc., etc. It is all about keeping the economy in bad shape, so they could have a chance in November. That is all it has been about from day one. And it really piss me off to see the media sit there and let the Republicans get away with this. When the jobs numbers come out look the Republicans in the face and ask them what have they been doing to pass a jobs bill? And then check it out and see exactly if it is true if they have been doing anything. That's the media job. As for as Mitt Romney goes, what is his plans to create jobs? He can't stand before the camera, do his little speech, and take no questions, and give no plans of his own. If I took my car to the mechanic and he didn't fix it right, so I take it to a second mechanic, the second mechanic can't stand up there and tell me everything the first one did wrong, without telling me what his plans are to fix things right.
I am just about finished with my party and the divide and divide, strategy! I feel that I can speak out on a forum like this so as not disclose to my family and friends openly how disgusted I am getting..
I find myself having to argue against my own belief system, because I know how important this election, and it's overall impact on our future, but I am getting closer than ever to just shouting out, to all of my colleagues to just jump ship and change direction NOW, before the lunatics take us down for a generation or more..
I am a classic old fashion liberal, a good one at that, but not anywhere close to a socialist, communist, or what is now called Progressive, because they are basically all the same ideology.
I had high hopes for our President, and I put my mouth, shoulder and checkbook behind him to get him elected, but I am now wondering why!
The straw might be this BS about taxing the RICH, for anyone making $200,000. Get a clue, we are in a recession/depression, high unemployment, closer to 15% than 8%, and so much uncertainty, over healthcare, global warming BS, and what the EPA may have in the barrel of that gun for businesses..
Today our party has become some caricature of what it once was, an advocate for the working man. It now looks like some European Socialist experiment, that has proved to be demonstrably a failure..
WAKE UP FOLKS, we don't want Rumpbutt, or this bastardized liberalism, we want fairness, and stability from our government. Everything my party is doing now only gets me to cringe in fear..
I am a businessman that is sitting on my money because I really do not know what we have in mind for my future, to make any further expansion in my company, or just throw my hands up and retire and watch my country go down the drain..
@ Not/So/Fast... Quote "I am a businessman that is sitting on my money because I really do not know what we have in mind for 'my' future, ..." Seriously, everything in your post was 'my' ~ how selfish! First of all, get off all your money and hire some people that need jobs! Oh, sorry, I forget - those companies that are sitting on their money aren't willing to help those in the unemployment lines.
What a poor excuse you are as an American - who are you to think only of yourself. No where in your post do I see that you're thinking of anything other than yourself. How about doing something in your community that would help those less fortunate than you ... volunteer ~ see what those that "don't own their own business and sitting on their money" are living like these days!
Better yet, throw your hands up - retire and move to the Cayman Islands and put 'your money in banks with Romeny'! Selfish people like you we DO NOT need in our Country!
Todds FALSE Equivalency ON THE ROMNEY SWIFT BOATING IS THE LAST STRAW...
