The 11th President was born in North Carolina, but spent much of his life in Tennessee, and in the 1844 election, he lost both states.

Charlotte, North Carolina is named for the British Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III.. who was King when America won independence.

Democrats picked Adlai Stevenson in Chicago in both 1952 and 1956... Richard Nixon was nominated in Miami Beach in '68 and renominated there in '72... And Jimmy Carter got the nod in New York in both 1976 and 1980.


George w. Bush lost Pennsylvania in 2000, when the convention was held in Philadelphia, and he lost New York in 2004 when the RNC was in New York City.


FDR was 38 in 1920 when he ran on a ticket headed by Governor James M. Cox of Ohio.... Richard Nixon was 39 when he ran with Eisenhower in 1952... and Dan Quayle was 41 during his first run with George H.W. Bush.

Chicago has hosted either the DNC or the RNC six times since 1948.


James Buchanan and John Breckinridge are the only POTUS and VP to have last names beginning with the same letter. That means if Romney and Ryan win, it will be only the second time the President and Vice President's last names begin with the same letter.

As a fellow Texan, Rayburn initially took Johnson under his wing in the House of Representatives, guiding Johnson's career in congress. In the late 50's and early 60's Johnson served as Senate Majority Leader while Rayburn was Speaker of the House.
